OCPAA 2022/2023 Season auditions will take place Monday, July 18th through Friday, July 22nd. Registration is now open. Students should be registered by their AGE GROUP and if they are NEW to company or RETURNING company members. Please read all the details below to learn the steps, timeline, fees and schedule. We will be auditioning dancers for our 2023 season based off a series of master classes. Things we will be looking for include the following:
- How the dancer takes and presents themselves in a class environment (attitude, focus, responsibility, character)
- Ability to pick up choreography and take corrections
- Overall technical abilities
- Performance ability in each style (jazz, lyrical, contemporary, hip hop, etc.)
OCPRO vs Company
This season, OCPAA is formatting OCPRO to be designated advanced level competition groups with advanced level dancers ranging from ages 7 and up that attend 3-4 conventions (with competitions, examples: Radix, Jump, The Dance Awards, etc.) and 2 traditional competitions.
Company groups will attend 4-5 regular competitions (examples: KAR, Hall of Fame, Showbiz, Showstoppers, etc.) and one nationals. Dancers will be placed on teams for weekly technical training (by age/skill level). At company auditions on July 18-22, all dancers will be evaluated for placement on OCPRO groups. If you make OCPRO groups you will follow the OCPRO competition schedule, or, if you are placed in Company groups, you will follow the Company competition schedule. We do not plan on having crossovers, but will deal with individual circumstances as they arrive. For detailed information please contact us via email.
In general any dancer in OCPRO or Company groups are considered part of OCPAA Company.

NEW – any dancer auditioning for OCPAA Company 2022/2023 Season who was not on company or OCPRO for the 2021/2022 Season.
RETURN – any dancer who is currently on Company or OCPRO and competed with OCPAA for the 2021/2022 Season.
If you are unable to attend all or part of auditions you still must REGISTER, pay the audition fee and drop off a headshot and index cards. After you have registered please email the office to let them know if you will not be present. Your card will NOT be charged for the classes until after we have gotten back to your email about being absent and updated your audition fees accordingly.
Audition Groups and Fees
Students should take the schedule based on their age as of 1/1/2023 which is the age they will compete as for the duration of the 2023 competition season.
Tuition Fee: Dancers auditioning who were not on the team in 21/22 will have a tuition fee for the master classes per their group schedule. If the dancer is currently enrolled in OCPAA recreational classes please contact the studio to confirm the tuition fee for auditions. Current company’s (RETURN) July tuition covered the audition week tuition.
Audition Fee: The fee to apply for OCPAA 2022/2023 Season Company. NEW students to company: $100/RETURN company dancers: $75

Audition Schedule – By Groups
Students should take the schedule based on their age as of 1/1/2023 which is the age they will compete as for the duration of the 2023 competition season. NEW and RETURNING company will be in the same classes by Group. Please review the schedule for each Group below.
Call backs will happen if the faculty determines it is neccessary. This will be for students that they would like to see an additinal time outside of master classes. Parents will be notified via email by Thursday evening if their child should attend call backs. Otherwise, all students who do not receive an email about call backs so plan to attend the schedule for their group as outlined below.

What To Bring
- At Check In Monday 7/18: Bring 3×5 Index Cards to Auditions – new and returning dancers
- We are requiring that each student bring one 3”x5” index card per GROUP they are requesting with the following info on ONE SIDE of each card. (If you are requesting 5 groups you will bring 5 cards)
- Dancer First and Last Name
- Dancer audition group
- Card # of # (number of groups requesting) EXAMPLE
- Please have the card in the horizontal orientation.
- Bring the cards in one sealed ziplock bag with the student’s first/last name and audition group written on the front of the bag: Jane Doe/Group A

What To Wear
- Ballet: black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, hair pulled back in slick bun
- Hip Hop: any dance clothes, sneakers, hair neatly pulled back in ponytail or bun
- Jazz/Contemporary/Lyrical/Technique: all black dance clothes (no skirts), jazz shoes or half soles, socks OK for contemporary, hair pulled back in slick bun
- Ballroom: any dance clothes, skirt optional, ballroom shoes optional but recommended, hair neatly pulled back in ponytail or bun
- Light makeup is OK
- No jewelry
- No hair bows or accessories
